Geography:

Mohawk Trail State Forest is situated along the historic Mohawk Trail auto road, in a deep mountain gorge divided by the rugged Cold River. Within this 8,000 acre facility you will find some of the tallest trees in the northeast and a section of the original ancient foot path used by Native Americans, now known as the Machican-Mohawk Trail.

Mohawk Trail State Forest has abundant recreational opportunities. Wade or fish in the nearby streams and brooks. Fishing in a nearby section of the Deerfield River is limited to catch and release with artificial lures only. Swim in the designated swimming area or hike through the woods and across an expansive meadow.

During the winter, the forest becomes a winter wonderland, where visitors on cross-country skis or snowshoes can explore a snow-covered wilderness.

Hunting is permitted at Mohawk State Forest, for more information please visit: Hunting in Massachusetts' State Parks Page
